Brazil exports sugar, iron ore, steel, soybeans, coffee, and beef. It is the second largest exporter of soy and the fourth largest exporter of pork. This is an example of globalization in Brazil because Brazil trades with people around the world especially in Iran and China. In fact, Brazil’s largest trading partner is China (“What Brazil Thinks About Globalization”, 2011). Recently, three Brazilian suppliers were given licenses from China to sell pork (“Brazil-China: What’s Next After Rousseff’s Visit?”, 2011). In my opinion, I think this exportation of goods to other nations benefits Brazil because its interdependence is economic. Exporting goods helps the economy of Brazil and accounts for almost a third of its GDP (“What Brazil Thinks About Globalization”, 2011). I think exporting goods increases sales and profits as well as gives Brazilians more jobs. With an increase in exportation, I think it decreases the stress and dependence put on local markets. This will lead to more specialization because nations are allowed to trade and Brazil will be able to sell its excess production. On the other hand, I believe international trade will be costly for Brazil. They may need to pay for export licenses, administrative staff, and much more in order for international trade to be possible. Furthermore, there may be issues with international payments and different ethics for international trade. Overall, I think men and women in Brazil benefit equally from this form of globalization.
Brazil works with international pharmaceutical companies to develop and sell medicines. This is an example of globalization in Brazil because Brazil works with other nations around the world to create and sell pharmaceuticals in Brazil and abroad. Brazil is able to export generic versions of drugs to other countries (“What Brazil Thinks About Globalization”, 2011). In my opinion, I think this example of globalization helps Brazil because its interdependence is economic. Pharmaceutical drugs are cheaper for people worldwide and more medicines are being developed. By the globalization of international pharmacies, medical information is being spread and people across nations are able to collaborate. Collaboration will aid in the development of new pharmaceuticals. I think health improves and life expectancies increase because of international pharmaceutical companies. On the other hand, the safety of drugs can be questionable when international trade is involved. Overall, I think international pharmacies are good for Brazil.
Brazil exports alternative energies. This is an example of globalization in Brazil because Brazil is able to sell their excess renewable energy to other countries worldwide. Brazil generates energy from renewable resources such as water, biomass, and wind. Its interdependence is economic because Brazil exports renewable energy in order to import petroleum-generated energy (“What Brazil Thinks About Globalization”, 2011). Brazil is earning money from selling renewable energy in order to buy other means of energy. In my opinion, I think this example of globalization both helps and hinders Brazil. Exportation of alternative energies replaces some of the fossil fuels used, which I believe is causing global warming. On the other hand, I do not think alternative energies are able to meet the demands of the people alone. Both men and women benefit equally from the exportation of alternative energies. Overall, I think the exportation of alternative energies benefits Brazil more than it hinders it.
Globalization in Brazil has strengthened its trade routine and allowed for interconnectedness of people around the world. Brazil has benefitted economically from globalization. Brazil has been able to interact and collaborate with other nations through international trade and investments. I think globalization is needed for a country to grow.
